I grew up in New Orleans, went to college at Yale University, and earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at The University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill, where I worked with the TEACCH program. I did two years of postdoctoral work at the Yale Child Study Center. I then moved back to New Orleans and joined the staff of Mercy Family Center as a Clinical Psychologist. In 2006, after the birth of my first child, I went into private practice. In 2009, I left my practice to become a stay-at-home mother and writer. In 2019, I returned to work as a consultant focusing on potty training.
